Yanks win in Oakland, but problems continue to linger

The biggest headline and positive to draw from the Yankees otherwise sloppy win last night was Ivan Nova. Nova went 6 innings on an economical 62 pitches, 4 hits, 1 earned, 3Ks, and picked up the W.

With the utter debacle that is Michael Pineda and Luis Severino, this is encouraging. Can Nova be a consistent producer on the mound every 5th day? He certainly wouldn't be my first guess but I'm running out of options here. We Yankees fans will literally take whatever we can get at this point. Sitting at 18-22 on May 20th, 6.5 back of the O's and Sox, it's still tough to tell if they are doomed or can turn it around.

Which brings me to my next point, the lineup. Check out the box score from last night and pay particular attention to the average and RISP stats.

Let's start with the RISP stat. Your leadoff hitter (Ellsbury), three hitter (McCann), four hitter (Beltran), and six hitter (Castro) were a combined 0 for 6 with RISP last night. That is DISGUSTING. It's completely unacceptable and its the way it has been the entire year, .210 is the teams average with RISP. Couple that with the way the way the rotation has been going and I am now CONVINCED that we're lucky to be 4 games under .500.

It's truly remarkable and this team has become insufferable to not only watch but think about on a daily basis. I know the expectations weren't high, but what do you think you're going to get from the "experts," everyone hates the Yankees. Not a single person on their roster is really all that close to sniffing .300, and that's honestly embarrassing. However, I still firmly believe that we can turn this around, the Yanks just have to get back to the fundamentals.

Tonight they'll face Sonny Gray (3-4, 5.84ERA) against big CC (2-2, 3.81ERA) who is making his first start back since a stint on the DL. His last start came against Baltimore on May 4th, where he tossed 7 flawless innings giving up just 6 hits and no earned.

Let's get back after it and get some mojo going for the love of god.

LET'S GO YANKS! Hoping to see a lot more of these tonight...
